November is almost over and London can’t wait to get festive already! The decorations and lights have been up for a couple of weeks now but what’s really beginning to excite us is the festive and cosy Christmas markets and fairs. There is nothing more merry than meeting up with a couple of friends or your loved ones and heading down for some seasonal shopping and a glass of mulled wine. Can’t decide which ones to visit? We have decided to put together a list of our favourite five.
The winter market at Southbank centre’s Christmas festival is magically transformed into a lively market every year complete with a range of exciting festivities and sparkling lights to get you in the spirit. The festival, which lasts a month long, features a range of free and priced events suitable for all ages from theatrical performances to special dances, there is something to suit everyone. You can expect other activities to be focussed on family and charity. To make things even more magical, this festival is set alongside the twinkling river where you can soak up the atmosphere of London, its sights, sounds and beauty.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
Of course this is a hit every year. Complete with a huge ice rink (the largest outdoors ice rink in the UK), two circuses, a Magical Ice Kingdom and a themed bar, what’s not to love about this joyous event. Whether you choose to make a visit to Santa’s Grotto, dance to Christmas jingles, ride the rollercoasters or drink at the fabulous themed bars; there is something to be enjoyed for all. You surely won’t be disappointed with this one.
Winterville at Victoria Park
For an alternative Christmas market experience with a creative twist, this is certainly the place to be. The pop up town set in Victoria Park not only features your typical Christmas festivities such as an ice-skating rink and a fairground. You can also expect to find a Snow White Pantomime, Plonk Crazy Golf and even ‘The Winter Night Garden’ where you can sit back, relax and snuggle up to screenings of Christmas classics such as ‘Home Alone’ and ‘The Muppets Christmas Carol.’
We are most excited however about the Circus of Horrors. Named ‘A nightmare before Christmas.’ This freaky circus act features sword swallowers, fire breathers and Death Defying Aerialists.
Hyper Japan Christmas Market at Tobacco Dock
If you want a unique Christmas experience like no other then head over to The Hyper Japan Christmas Market. Combining Christmas festivities with Japanese culture, you can expect to find an array of interesting stalls selling unique gifts from pop culture goodies and anime movies to traditional crafts and Kimonos. There is also an Eat Japan area were you can sample sushi and saki whilst also watching Christmas themed cooking demonstrations.
Kingston Christmas Market
Looking to get in that Christmas spirit away from the hustle and bustle of London then head to the outskirts and visit Kingston Upon Thames. The picturesque town features a cute little traditional market where you can enjoy a glass of mulled wine and roast chestnuts whilst listening to songs from the local choirs and bands.
