When describing your skin, you’ve probably used the words “dehydrated” and “dry” often without really realising the difference. But there is one! Although your skin might feel mostly the same, the cause is very different and should be treated as such. Let’s dive in.

What is dry skin?

Firstly, it's a skin type (such as sensitive skin) not a skin condition and a lot of it comes down to your genetics. People with dry skin often lack enough oil, and it can extend to all parts of your body including your scalp, elbows and hands.

What can I do about it?

You can change your skin type, but there are lots of things you can do to help soothe and manage it. Look for products containing jojoba, emollients or almond oil,, such as HYDRATOR Hybrid Lotion.

What is hydrated skin?

Dehydrated skin is a skin condition (not a type), meaning it’s treatable and temporary and usually impacted by internal and external factors (heating and air-cooling, harsh products, changes in weather, not drinking enough water). You can have oily skin (type) but still dehydrated skin (condition).

What can I do about it?

If this is you, you’ll be happy to hear that there are lots of things you can do for quick results. As a baseline you should be drinking the recommended amount of water, and drinking coconut water is also great. Opt for products that help your skin retain water, such as hyaluronic acid - a key ingredient in our HYDRATOR Hybrid Lotion - or use an overnight face mask.

Can I have both Dry and Dehydrated Skin?

You sure can! And if that’s the case then you’ll need to add both oil and water to your routine. The HYDRATOR Hybrid Lotion has both hyaluronic acid (water properties) and almond oil (oil properties) in the 1 tube - so it will take care of both.
