We believe that there's nothing better than a long hot bath to soothe aching muscles, ease away tension and make you feel great after a long day. But did you know that there are some very surprising facts about bathing? Read on to find out 7 facts about bathtime you wish you knew sooner…

1) Bathing is relaxing

Duh! Of course long baths by candlelight are relaxing... but its therapeutic benefits are only now being truly appreciated by the health and beauty world.

Dermatologists and skin experts have confirmed that ‘feel-good’ hormones - endorphins - are released when you bathe, similar to that feeling when you’re laying down on the beach enjoying all the warmth of the summer weather.

So, next time you're feeling a little blue, there's never been a better reason to jump in the bath...

2) It’s like having a mini-workout, except you’re not doing anything!

Thinking about going to the gym tonight but can’t be bothered? No problem as we have the perfect solution… just take a bath! An hour long soak at 38 degrees can burn on average 130 calories, which is the equivalent of doing 40 sit ups or walking for half an hour. Gives a whole new meaning to ‘running’ a bath doesn’t it?

3) It can help you sleep

Bathing or showering warms the skin relaxing the muscles underneath of it which causes a soothing effect, lulling the body into a state of relaxation which will prepare you for your 40 winks.

Unlike we previously thought, it’s not the sharp rise in body temperature (while soaking in the bath) that causes this, but actually the body’s drop in temperature post-soak that slows down your heart rate and breathing rate, giving you the best conditions for a good night’s sleep.

4) It can help soothe dry skin

That tight, dry feeling we all sometimes experience can often be due to the skin losing moisture through the top layers of the skin barrier, especially with those who suffer with eczema and psoriasis.

The best way to give your skin the hydration it needs is to try to replace the moisture it's lost - and the perfect way to do this is with a bath. When you mix a nourishing oil with water such as our range of melting oil pearls, this can help to provide an external barrier that allows moisture in but not escape. Better still, using a rich oil-based moisturising lotion after you come out will help to lock in even more moisture and keep skin feeling its best.

For a refreshing treat, the sweet unisex scent of our Moroccan Mint Tea body lotion is perfect for keeping your skin feeling soft and smooth. With added Shea butter and essential oils in all of our body lotions, you’ll be feeling great and smelling even better with these fresh and fruity moisturising body lotions with a twist.

5) Bath bombs are alkaline

We love a bath bomb or two here at Bubble T thanks to its skin-softening properties, scents and nourishing essential oils!

Mostly made with a base of sodium bicarbonate, these colourful fizzers contain a range of fresh and fruity fragrances and nourishing sweet orange, mint and bergamot oils to soothe skin. What's better though, did you know that using sodium bicarbonate in your bath will make your water slightly more alkaline?

Known as being effective in cleansing the body and removing toxins - although this is maximised when drinking alkaline water - experts still believe it can have a profound effect from your skin absorbing in it. Total win-win?

So, from the sweet and fruity scents of our Summer Fruits Tea Bath Popsicle Fizzer to our giant 9-piece bath bomb collection, you’ll be whisked away to a magical (alkaline) paradise in no time.

The hardest decision? Choosing which one to try first…

6) A bath a day keeps the doctor away

Did you know baths can make your heart actually pump faster? As the heart plays a vital role in trying to cool the body down, it has to work harder in a hot bath - not only exercising the heart but also great for the body’s general blood flow. Baths, we heart you.

Additionally, taking time out for yourself is a very important thing to do both mentally and physically. Baths can be the perfect treat and can allow your mind to slow down for a while. All say 'ahhh'...

“There must be quite a few things a hot bath won't cure, but I don't know many of them.” - Sylvia Plath.

7) Taking a bath can improve your mood

After a tough day at work, the bath is the only place to be. Laying in the bath has been proven to cheer you up due to the combination of warmth, the relaxing feeling of laying almost-horizontally and also with a little slice of 'me-time' with a bit of peace and quiet... hopefully!

Not only will baths help to make you feel happier they clean just as well as showers, the steam from the bath will open up pores and wash away the day. Clean and happy - what more could you want?

So, liven up your bathing experience and throw some bath bombs in there. GO MAD. Get the candles out and live your most carefree life and jump in. Can’t do that in a shower now can you?

So there you have it... 7 reasons to enjoy a long bath tonight. Go on, go have a wash ya filthy animal 😜
